Exclusive Dutch Election Debate to be held at GRI Conference on 27 May
11 May 2010
On 9 June 2010 the general elections will take place in the Netherlands. The Dutch media is currently focusing on the economic situation rather than on “green issues” as the slow post-crisis recovery is overshadowed by the financial turmoil in Greece and other Southern European countries. On the other hand several Dutch parties – mainly GroenLinks, PvdA and D66 - profile themselves as ecological and sustainable parties. How much of this is electoral propaganda? What has already been achieved in the field of sustainability and what are the targets for the next legislative period? What actions will candidates for the Dutch parliament take to improve the transparency of business and to reward sustainable companies?

Follow a lively debate at 12:30 pm on Thursday 27 May 2010 at GRI’s Amsterdam Global Conference on Sustainability and Transparency, to be lead by Giuseppe van der Helm, Executive Director at VBDO (the Dutch Association of Investors for Sustainable Development) and Chair of Eurosif (the European Sustainable Investment Forum). Speakers signed up for the debate so far include Ms. Liesbeth van Tongeren of the Green Party (GroenLinks), Mr. Maas Goote of D66, Ms. Carola Schouten of the Christian Union CU, and representatives from the Labour (PvdA ) and Liberal Parties (VVD).
